A trip to a better world...amazing!

Reading this book is like traveling to some beautiful alternative universe where people are kind, love is everywhere, and life is good. It's more than just a "funny" book. It's a complete experience of another, nicer and more intelligent way to view the world.

I felt different after I read this book. Smarter. Nicer. Stronger. Happier. The world looked a little bit different. And I felt better about everything. (And I was happy already).

But the book is not only uplifting and empowering. It is hilariously funny! Much funnier than her previous two books. They were light time passers. Good for a chuckle. But Ellen has matured since then. And this book is at a higher level in all departments. I found myself laughing constantly at how clever something was. And I rarely find a book laugh out loud funny. But this one certainly is.

Full of Ellens winning life philosophy...told in the form of funny stories. Some true, some not. There is love. Freedom of thought. Creativity. Inspiration. This book felt like more than a book.

It feels like an experience. An experience not to be missed. Recommended.

Leave it to Ellen to make the Audiobook Different than the print edition.....

This is the third book for comedian/talk show host Ellen Degeneres and, if ever there was a book that should be "read by the author", it's one by Ellen. She honed her craft of comedy by doing "stand-up" and she actually "performs" the audio version, more than just reading it. Ellen talks fast and so the 3 hours on the three CDs literally fly by! And the words aren't all the same as the print edition (which I also read through). She re-wrote parts of it to "talk to - you - the listener" and even adds a chapter (Chapter 29) just for the audiobook. Speaking of chapters, the print edition does not have numbered chapters for these short essays. But Ellen announces a number before each one. Since I started with the audio version first, I wondered - when I got to the chapter titled "Meditation", which contains 20 seconds or so of silence - how she'd deal with this in the print edition. So I looked and there were three blank pages. The reverse holds true for the chapter titled "For the Children" where there are full-page illustrations to color. For the audiobook, Ellen tells the listener that there is a .pdf file on the CD with the illustrations - though I haven't checked that out yet.

The print edition is 240 pages with short chapters and plenty of space between the lines so you can easily pick it up and put it down as time permits. These are short essays of observations on everything from being judge on American Idol to being married to her wife Portia. Either format will entertain you - it did me - if you are an Ellen fan (I am). The Print version allows you to go back and read - or share - a special chapter., while the audio version allows you to hear her voice and timing.

Laugh out Loud funny

I don't normally write reviews but I had to review this book because I love Ellen and love this book and want it to be successful for her! Funniest most witty book I have read in a long time. You really have to know and appreciate Ellen's humor to read and understand this book. It very much reminds me of her stand up comedy dvd "here and now". It is a lot of the same humor and I can literally hear her voice and how she says things while I am reading this book. This book is not only hysterical but it also has really wonderful words of wisdom in it. She brings you back to a much simpler time and makes you realize how ridiculous life has gotten with laziness, busy-ness, and technology to name a few. I read this book in a day and it was amazing from the first word to the last.

About the Author
Michael E. Cafferky (DBA, Anderson University) is the Ruth McKee Chair for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics at Southern Adventist University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in management, business strategy, entrepreneurship, organizational theory and business ethics. He also serves as the editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Biblical Integration in Business for the Christian Business Faculty Association. In 2013 he received the Sharon G. Johnson Award from the Christian Business Faculty Association in national recognition of his efforts toward integrating faith and business in his scholarship. Prior to his work in higher education, Cafferky worked for twenty years in the healthcare industry at various levels of leadership including front-line supervisor, department manager, director of business development, CFO, COO and CEO. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the Christian Business Faculty Association, and was a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives for ten years. He also served as an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Cafferky is the author of eight books including Management: A Faith-based Perspective, Breakeven Analysis (coauthored with Jon Wentworth) and Scriptural Foundations for Management. He has published articles in the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business, Faith in Business Quarterly, Christian Business Academy Review, the Journal of Applied Christian Leadership and the Journal of Religion and Business Ethics. An active speaker at conferences, Cafferky has given presentations on faith and business topics in the United States, Australia, Africa, Russia, Europe, Canada and Mexico. He and his wife Marlene have two grown sons.

Excellent primer on an important subject

Initially I expected a very dry and academic treatment of the topic but was very pleasantly surprised. The book is in fact an enjoyable read. The case studies are plentiful and interesting, the writing is clear and direct, and best of all the integration of ethical frameworks with 12 biblical themes provides a useful framework for ethical thinking for Christians in business and for students. The questions provided at the end of each chapter are likely to stimulate much discussion. The initial case study concerning Jason C and the 'theft' of wifi services is sufficient to stimulate hours of debate. I recommend this book highly as a primer for anyone interested in the subject before moving on to deeper theological treatments.

This copiously illustrated encyclopedia chronicles more than 1,000 DC Comics characters from the 1930s to the present. Arranged alphabetically, each entry gives the first appearance, status (hero, villain, etc.), real name, occupation, height, weight, and eye and hair color of the superheroes or supervillains. Special abilities and superpowers are also listed along with ample cross-references to other comic characters or superleague affiliations, such as the L.E.G.I.O.N. cosmic peacekeeping force.

The biographical entries make fascinating reading in alternative history. For example, the Crimson Avenger served in a league called the Seven Soldiers of Victory during World War II. Afterward, he was sent backward in time. He came forward in time and discovered that he was struck with a terminal disease. After his death, an unknown woman purchased two guns that had belonged to him. These guns transformed her into Crimson Avenger II, who became an agent of vengeance and execution. Of course, famous characters such as Wonder Woman or Batman are included. But lesser-known characters, such as Superman's college flame, Lori Lemaris (a mermaid), are also listed.

The colorful design makes this book a pleasure to browse. Special two-page features, such as "Amazing Weapons" and "Romantic Moments," are interspersed with the biographies. Recommended for public libraries with active comic readership. Jack O'Gorman

What can be said about this encyclopaedia that hasn't already been said? I had the previous 2004 edition I was thrilled to have that one, this new expanded encyclopaedia is spectacular. This book is exhaustive on referencing over one thousand DC characters, origins, significant events in DC mythology. It provides a definite order to the pandemonium of DC characters and history in a most visually acceptable way. The encyclopaedia focuses on teams, places, weapons, vehicles, battles and everything that is DC. Emphasised in more brand new pages are the icons of DC mythology like Batman, and Superman which have been around forever in that their are Rich in characters even of the most obscure and overlooked forgotten individuals. The art work is so legendary enviable that it,s beyond the norm of realistic in that all the characters seem to jump out of youi in the book in all directions. The cover is a masterpiece of expansion in that Alex Ross is the most artistically talented artist ever to have imagination and flair that go beyond the norm. This is a book for true DC aficionados that no true DC lover can be without it will become a collector's item because everything about it is fabulous. Not only does it supersede the 2004 edition but it also has an added 48 brand new pages in it with expanded detail on some characters of a more pronounced nature in it with updates and new storylines including the recent Infinite crisis story. This book will be even more successful than the previous one. An essential DC mythology and character reference of all the charcters good or bad in the dc universe.

Great DC Comics book!

This is a very good book. If you are familiar with the Star Wars Visual Guides then you will love this book! Its unbelievable how many characters there are in this one. Though there may be heroes and heroines missing but only the hard-core and older fans of the DC Universe will notice. There is a small photo of John Constantine. The book does however have a large section of Swamp Thing! There are huge sections of Superman and Batman and most of their villains are present in great detail and write ups. For instance, Superman's villains like Doomsday, Lex Luthor, Bizarro, Sinestro, The Eradicator, and Darkseid all have good sections. Batman's villains like the Joker, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Bane, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Black Mask, and Ra's Al Ghul all have great sections as well! Also big sections of Wonder Woman, Aqua Man, the Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawkman and the rest of the JLA. Many other shots of other groups as well! Great pictures of Powergirl, Supergirl, Batgirl, The Birds of Prey (Oracle, Black Canary, and the Huntress) have decent pictures and sections. People such as Alfred, Robin, Nightwing and other have good sections. Many simians such as Gorilla Grodd have good sections. There is a huge index at the end of the book to quickly find who you're looking for! The cover art by Alex Ross is unbeatable! The heroes and villains look like real human beings! I really dig the pictures of Supergirl, Batgirl, The Black Canary, and Catwoman! The book has so many, really neat pictures from the DC Universe all in color. If you are looking for a book that has most of DC's characters and information about them such as real names and what issue and year they first appeared in and more then I strongly recommend this book!

A fun reference

I like this book. It includes an amazing number of characters from over 60 years of the DC universe. It's full of tons of great art and descriptions. The artwork all comes from previously published work unlike the old "Who's Who In the DC Universe" publications, where artists were hired to create new portraits of each character. In fact some of the artwork in this book comes straight from the early 1990's "Who's Who" series. It would have been nice to have seen original art for each character like that again, but the way it's done here works well enough. I'm sure the expense of commissioning over 1000 new portraits seemed ridiculous to the publisher, considering the treasure trove of existing art from which to choose.

One thing i don't like about the book is the fact that the artists' credits do not correspond to the artwork in any way. I don't mind the fact that the names are put in the back as they are instead of included with each image, but I would like to have seen page numbers next to the names at least. Anyway, this is a small criticism. Overall, it's a good book.

My only other comment is more of a fantasy. I really wish this were even more detailed. It would have been wonderful to have seen this made into a real encyclopedia set, with numerous volumes, much more detailed descriptions, and even more art. The set could be standardized in a way such that outdated volumes (for example, book 14/N-P) could be easily replaced with an updated version. A set like this could live on for decades. Oh well, maybe some day.

About the Author
Irina Szmelskyj is an acupuncturist with more than 10 years’ experience specializing in reproductive health care, including the health care needs of patients with infertility issues and the use of acupuncture in the clinical management of patients undergoing assisted reproductive treatments such as IVF. Irina’s method of managing subfertile patients is based on a thorough understanding of the value of combining the best of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and conventional medicine. Her approach emphasizes the clinical utility of integrating both classically based traditional acupuncture treatment techniques and concepts with the practical clinical application of contemporary evidence-based advances from the rapidly changing landscape of reproductive medicine research. Irina practises acupuncture at True Health Clinics in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.

Lianne Aquilina is a traditional Chinese medical acupuncturist. In 2005 the Faculty of Health, Life and Social Sciences of the University of Lincoln, awarded her the Dean's prize for Studies in Health. She is an experienced BSc (Hons) acupuncture clinical supervisor. Her role includes teaching third year acupuncture students the application of classical and traditional Chinese medicine principles along with the clinical utility of Chinese acupuncture. She is also a visiting guest lecturer to undergraduate students on the use of Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatment in the management of infertility and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). She completed further training at the Guangdong Province Second Hospital of TCM in China. It was here where she observed an authentic combination of traditional Chinese and medical strategies in treatment and management of disease. Lianne's specializes in providing fertility acupuncture treatment, based on innovative applied classical Chinese philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concepts of reproductive health and fertility. Lianne practices acupuncture at Aquilia Fertility in Stamford, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.

A MUST for acupuncturists and natural health providers with an interest in fertility and Chinese medicine

I purchased this book when it became available in the US after originally released in the UK and have not been disappointed in its content, organization, and resources as a reference tool. This is a comprehensive book which is written for Chinese medicine practitioner and students, not for the layperson, interested in the use of acupuncture for fertility. After taking the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM) test I can say I wish I had this book as a reference source along with the other textbooks used in preparing for the test. While addressing multiple aspects of fertility and its treatment from the Chinese medicine background, it presents the Western medicine information at the same time. Other Western medicine books on fertility can be overwhelming in the amount of knowledge it covers where this book gets right to the point. While acupuncturists study and are knowledgeable on Chinese medicine pattern diagnosis and treatment principles, the Western medicine side must be understood in order to truly proceeding in treating patients who are coming into our clinics with infertility and subfertility diagnoses and treatment plans. Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction references the other major books and sources many acupuncturists in this field have been or will be exposed to, but this book puts all the information in one place.

Great effort has been placed on the reference section for each chapter indicating the many sources that were examined in the writing of the book. The listing of acupuncture points also indicated the traditional source or reference which is great. The ease of reading and comprehension of the information along with the clear and informative graphs, tables, and appendix is of value when there is so much content. Also in browsing the book the style looked familiar as the chapter layout is similar to the Maciocia textbooks, who also wrote the foreword for the book. One of the most informative chapters is on the management of the patient with a complex medical history since it address true life, modern conditions that arise with fertility patients and gives case studies and flowcharts that are clinically relevant.
There are two issues that those looking for a reference book may seem as lacking in this book. The first is the lack of mentioning Chinese herbs in the treatment of fertility and second is the lack of discussion of frequently sited, research studies. I mentioned this because as practitioners we want to back up our treatments with the evidence based data that our Western medicine colleagues rely so heavily on. We also have seen other similar texts that include herbal formula combinations and single herb indications important in modifying base formulas for fertility. However, I believe this book’s purpose wasn’t to rewrite other books that neither present us with that herbal information nor serve as a meta-analysis of every published research paper. The exclusion of this material makes sense from a practical perspective as not all acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners’ use, feel comfortable, or are allowed to use herbs during fertility treatment, especially if patients are also under the care of an RE or on medications for assisted reproductive therapy.

This book should be a study guide, as I’m sure it will be shortly, not just for anyone taking the ABORM test to becoming specified in Chinese medicine for fertility but also for those who are not specializing but need a clear source on understand the multiple approaches and options to IVF while treatment patients. The appendix offers examples that are practical to clinical use including basal body temperature charting, patient intake forms, fertility fact sheets, common medications patients are given during fertility treatment, as well as reference ranges for lab values that are up-to-date.

In review, Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction is a great resource for those with continuing interest in treating patients with reproductive issues. It combines the necessary Western medicine knowledge for understanding different condition diagnosis and common Western treatment with the Chinese medicine pattern diagnosis and application. It works well in combination with the other books published by authors who have becoming masters in this field to truly help practitioners of Chinese medicine examine all aspects of fertility treatment. I applaud the authors for their hard work for pulling together the many references needed for this book and the editing required to product a reference text that is clear, easy to read and understand, without bias, and will be useful for many years to come.

Good book on subject

The content is good with pictures of the textiles or other artifacts to help see the textile or technique used to make it. The first section gives an overview on textiles that I find repetitive and a bit confusing when you more forward aa you feel you are jumping around history but it is good section if you are not familiar with textiles.

Excellent and informative book

Excellent and informative book. If you are into textiles, this book gives a lot of information. It's worth buying. I wish the pages were not glossy cuz that brings geometry into the reading process since you have to angle the book to avoid lights. I also wish the print was a tad larger. Best book on textiles

This is one of the best books on textiles I have ever read. The book is aimed at people who have an interest in textiles, without being an expert. The photos are well done and makes it a very interesting book. A real good buy.
