Through working with my students, I've developed what I believe to be an extremely effective method of learning how to play Street Fighter. This method is based on the idea of learning one tiny aspect of the game at a time through the eyes of the poster boy of Street Fighter, Ryu.

As a newbie in fighting games who had only played tekken 3 back in the day, and had recently been bitten by the SFV hype, I feel that this ebook speaks directly to me. I knew who gootecks was from his Excellent Adventures show and his strong focus on learning the fundamentals has helped me win against my button masher friends without having to perform a single fireball or combos on my recently purchased SF3 Third Strike.

English is not my native tongue and I had no problem understanding this ebook as gootecks makes sure he gets his point across, my goal with SFV is to not get bodied by everyone when playing online and I really think ebooks like this will help me achieve it.

Simplifying Street Fighter is an absolute necessity if you want to take your level of ability in Street Fighter up several notches immediately. Gootecks quickly breaks down the basics of Street Fighter (including the very fundamental level of what you should or could be playing on as your hardware or connection could be huge limiting factors) and then introduces you to the Ryu gameplan.

The ideas of what you should be focusing on are presented very clearly and, especially if you never had any idea beforehand, the strategies of what you should look to see or implement when playing are broken down in a manner that anyone picking up Street Fighter for the very first time can appreciate. From there, Gootecks introduces you to how you should train (using the game's offline training mode), and hand holds you through the entire process.

This brings me to the immense added value that Gootecks has provided throughout and after purchasing this book. He already continuously delivers through his YouTube channel, Cross Counter TV, and, furthermore, provided value through a free audio bonus that will make sure you train efficiently and effectively. very good book (from a begginer that yet played tons and tons of SF3-4. I'd love it to be a little more extensive, maybe detailing some characters or game plans. But from the fighting games books i've read yet, this is my favourite one (coming from someone that is yet to decide if he likes gootecks).

About the Author
Robert Lanza, M.D. is currently Chief Scientific Officer at Advanced Cell Technology, and Adjunct Professor of Surgical Sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has several hundred scientific publications and patents, and over 30 books, including Principles of Tissue Engineering (1st through 4th Editions), Methods of Tissue Engineering, Principles of Cloning (1st and 2nd Editions), Essentials of Stem Cell Biology (1st and 2nd Editions), XENO, Yearbook of Cell & Tissue Transplantation, One World: The Health & Survival of the Human Species in the 21st Century (as editor, with forewords by C. Everett Koop and former President Jimmy Carter), and Medical Science & the Advancement of World Health. Dr. Lanza received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was both a University Scholar and Benjamin Franklin Scholar. He is a former Fulbright Scholar, and studied as a student in the laboratory of Richard Hynes (MIT), Jonas Salk (The Salk Institute), and Nobel laureates Gerald Edelman (Rockefeller University) and Rodney Porter (Oxford University). He also worked closely (and coauthored a series of papers) with the late Harvard psychologist B.F. Skinner and heart transplant pioneer Christiaan Barnard. Dr. Lanza's current area of research focuses on the use of stem cells in regenerative medicine.

Robert Langer received honorary doctorates from the ETH (Switzerland) in 1996 and the Technion (Israel) in 1997. Dr. Langer is the Kenneth J. Germeshausen Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at MIT. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University in 1970 and a Sc.D. from MIT in 1974, both in chemical engineering. Dr. Langer has written 590 articles, 400 abstracts, 350 patents, and has edited 12 books.Dr. Langer has received over 70 major awards, including the Gairdner Foundation International Award, the Lemelson-MIT prize, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Polymer Chemistry and Applied Polymer Science Awards, Creative Polymer Chemistry Award (ACS, Polymer Division), the Pearlman Memorial Lectureship Award (ACD, Biochemical Technology Division), and the A.I.Ch.E’s Walker, Professional Progress, Bioengineering, and Stine Materials Science and Engineering Awards. In 1989, Dr. Langer was elected to the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences, and in 1992 he was elected to both the National Academy of Engineering and to the National Academy of Sciences. He is the only active member of all 3 United States National Academies.

Dr. Joseph P. Vacanti received his M.D. degree from the university of Nebraska in 1974. He received his training in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1974 through 1981 and in pediatric surgery at The Children’s Hospital, Boston from 1981 through 1983. He then received clinical training in transplantation from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent two years in the laboratories of Dr. M. Judah Folkman working in the filed on angiogenesis from 1977 through 1979. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Vacanti joined the staff in surgery at children’s Hospital in Boston and began clinical programs in pediatric liver transplantation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. In the laboratory, he continued studies in and began work in the filed of tissue engineering in 1985. Dr. Vacanti is now John Homans Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Visiting surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, director of the Wellman 6 Surgical laboratories, director of the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Organ Fabrication and Director of Pediatric Transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He has authored more than 120 original reports, 30 book chapters, and 197 abstracts. He has more than 25 patents or patents pending in the United States, Europe, and Japan.

This text is so well written and organized that it virtually defines the frontiers of the life sciences for the next 100 years, an era that promises to deliver to mankind what our fellow humans only dreamed about for millennia. As a craniofacial and dentoalveolar applied biologist I have shared the information in this book with my patients who not only marvel at the phenomenal explosion of data but also the practial applications that it explains and justifies. A DEFINITIVE BOOK

this is one of the couple of dozen books ever written on african american history and the african american experience that has to be considered definitive. should be read by anyone seeking a more in-depth and nuanced understanding of chattel slavery and how it worked on a day-to-day basis as well as at a more overarching level. this research does an outstanding job of connecting enslaved africans and their american-born descendents to the culture, rituals, customs, and traditions of the motherland.

Loved reading and educating myself on my history !! Throughout junior and high school we were taught European history and about how oppressed Africans were. This book she's lighg in how educated and intelligent Blacks are; and about how were we professionals, queens and kings prior to slavery!!

I needed this book for my African American History Final Essay... It was very interesting, engaging and easy to read in the most part (take this from an ESL student). Great Book. I still have it and skim through it from time to time to remember how lucky I am for living in this time period... Very sad IMO

This is the ONE manual every nurse needs in their library.

McCaffery has hit a home run with this manual for the relief of pain in all patients. It is methodical, concise and easy to read. There are numerous examples of documentation which can be used IMMEDIATELY in the clinical setting. The author has also provided strategies to assist in adopting these changes in home care, hospice, long term care, oncology, and acute care settings.
As a pain management consultant, this is the one book I consider MANDATORY for all health care providers.

Very Informative

This book is old by textbook standards (written in 1999), but is still relevant. It explores attitudes towards perceptions of pain and how pain is interpreted. There are many references to research, a lot of it done by the authors. I have found it very useful in my class.

I have one complaint. I asked that it be shipped as a college text, using the 2-day shipment. The shipment took 12 days and arrived five days after my class started; two days after the first assignment was due.

Pain and Nursing Practice Reference

I learned so much reading this book. It's not new, but most of the information in it hasn't changed. There are a few new drugs on the market, but not much else than that. I have chronic pain and I like to be an informed patient. This book not only talked about strategies (both long and short term) for handling pain, but also went into all the processes involved in body chemistry in response to various kinds of drugs and other therapies. It also discusses how to know how well a patient is handling side-effects (which few doctors bother with). I believe the book is a college text-book, so this is not light reading, but I found it fascinating.

In this timely book, Speth, dean of the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, sounds the alarm on the seriousness of the global environmental crisis. Although he contends that it is not too late to avert disaster, he stresses that we are running out of time and that we can't afford to let current trends continue. He acknowledges that there have been a few hopeful developments, such as the ban on ozone-depleting chemicals around the world, but overall, he argues that little has been accomplished by a plethora of international conferences, negotiations, action plans and treaties. The failure, for which he says the U.S. must take much of the blame, stems from a focus on the symptoms rather than on the underlying causes of environmental degradation, such as population size, affluence and technology. He underscores the necessity of achieving sustainability-living off nature's income rather than consuming its capital-and lists eight transitions that are necessary to redefine and redirect growth on a global level. Speth, co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, founder of the World Resources Institute and an adviser on environmental issues for presidents Carter and Clinton, is well qualified to present a wake-up call on the environment in this thorough and reasoned book. Unfortunately, his somewhat dry recital of the facts may put off some potential readers-that is, today's youth. In a final and particularly useful chapter, he lists organizations and Web-based resources.

They must sound the alarm, Silent Spring-style, loudly enough to get readers motivated (i.e., frightened); but, on the other hand, they must remain optimistic enough to prevent feelings of futility from morphing into lethargy, no easy task when the environmental damage is immense and its scale global. It also helps to include specific suggestions for action. This book meets all of those challenges beautifully. Although the environmental movement, since the 1960s, has raised much consciousness and cleaned up much pollution, its methods fail against gigantic problems we cannot see until it is too late, like global warming. Nor, says Speth, will our current hodgepodge of treaties and international protocols even come close to preventing some truly horrible things in the near future, like the complete disappearance of maple trees from the Northeast.With concise statistics, bulleted lists, and the calm professionalism of an oncologist, the author is sympathetic to our civilization's economic needs but firm in prescribing some pretty serious lifestyle changes. Speth shows the way forward

Speth's book is one of the best books about the environment, and after a year of being out there should now be treated as a standard for the solutions it provides. The strongest point to this book, to my way of thinking, is the "eightfold way," the eight big trends we need to encourage for global environmental protection and sustainability. Few environmental books provide us with as wide a roadmap for the way forward as Red Sky at Morning. Transition 1) is a stable or smaller world population; 2) free of mass poverty; 3) environmentally benign technologies; 4) environmentally honest prices; 5) sustainable consumption; 6) knowledge and learning; 7) taking "good governance" seriously; and 8) the most fundamental transition of all: the transition in culture and consciousness. There is a broad imaginative sweep to these solutions and their interconnectedness and they defy easy categorization.

It is a tall order to do all this right, and we are left to wonder with the number of crises that beset the world in the early part of the 21st Century how we are going to do all this. Yet Speth's great virtue is that he does not engage in hand-wringing. He's very positive and very inclusive of all perspectives. He calls for widening environmentalism to include economic, political and social dimensions that are not usually thought of as belonging to its purview and for including business and private sector leadership. For those who have recently so loudly proclaimed the so-called "death" of environmentalism, Speth's eightfold way shows that it isn't dead, but at least potentially moving to a broader and more comprehensive phase which is much more difficult.

Red Sky at Morning

James Gustave Speth in his book, Red Sky at Morning, focuses on the subject of global warming in four sections: Environmental Challenges Go Global..., ....And the World Responds, Facing Up to Underlying Causes, and The Transition to Sustainability. As the author writes his preface, a blizzard is bearing down on his home in Yale Connecticut. The blizzard is forecast to set records while the month of January just had it second warmest average temperatures in history. The author writes: "dramatically colder weather in the North Atlantic region is one possible consequence of global warming because the warming could disrupt the Gulf Stream." The author continues and discusses the early days of the modern environmental movement and moves to the idea that earth's story has yet to be written and how there are two possible outcomes, one tragic and one not.
Part one of the book focuses on environmental challenges and the current problems that are contributing to global warming. From the industrial revolution to present day, we as a people have contributed to the "unnatural" warming of our planet. "Before we can understand why we have failed to act in our own and nature's interest, and what we can do to change, we need to examine what we are doing to the natural world" (Speth 11). The author discusses the various threats to biodiversity and ecosystems and the deforestation specifically in the Amazon. In his third chapter he goes into great detail about the huge quantities of pollution linked to the twentieth century's increases in population and economic activity. This pollution is destroying coral reefs, the ozone layer, and raising the average global temperature of our planet. The author discusses a need of transformation from high to low carbon emissions so we can avoid future climate risks.
Part two of the book focuses on the world responding to global warming and the domestic and global front. The author points out all the good things we have done but also the many things that still need to be done. In 1962 Rachel Carson published Silent Spring which was the first mass movement of awareness on the issue of DDT and on a broader since, pollution. In 1970 the first Earth Day was recognized and is still celebrated today to raise awareness about our planet. Through many other examples of positive developments the author moves to explain why these things happened. The author states some of the positive developments but lists many more contrasts that call attention to the weak political base by which the concern for our planet has rested. The author goes on to attack why we can't combat this global warming problem and lists various reasons.
The author transitions into part three of his book and discusses the idea of facing up to the underlying causes. The two chapters in this section examine the forces that are contributing and endangering the health of our planet and more specifically includes the ones that accelerate everything, globalization. The author writes about ten drivers of environmental deterioration and further details the concerning issue of globalization from an environmental standpoint. Globalization doesn't always promote "green alternatives" and this is a problem when everyone in the world wants to grow and expand. The transition to the globalized world is advancing rapidly, but the transition to a sustainable one is not.
The author's fourth and final section discusses the transition to sustainability. In the last few chapters the author writes on attacking the root causes and outlines an 8 step transition process to sustainability. The author ends his writing discussing the most fundamental transition, the transition in culture and consciousness. The author sums up his point very clearly in a sentence he writes, "The change that is needed can be best put as follows: in the twentieth century we were from Mars but in the twenty-first century we must be from Venus--caring, nurturing, and sustaining"(Speth 191).

Overall I thought the author presented a well written book. It had a very convincing argument and a great structure to support his argument. In the opening line of the book he uses foreshadowing and gives the reader a firsthand experience of the subject material. The author proceeds by framing his book into four sections: Environmental Challenges Go Global..., ....And the World Responds, Facing Up to Underlying Causes, and The Transition to Sustainability. Each part touches on the different aspects of the books primary subject. By doing this he sets the stage for the reader and informs the reader of the subject material within the first few lines. By splitting the book into four parts the book has structure and direction, the reader is aware of what is being discussed and can much better reference the material.
Though I thought the book was presented well and the authors arguments were convincing there were some criticisms to note. Each section of the book had little structure or flow and it made it very hard for the reader to understand all the material being presented. The first chapter starts out with numerous facts and statistics but hardly has any structure or organization. The reader is left confused when the author jumps from argument to argument and statistic to statistic. Though the author has tons of factual information and statistics about his subject material, the way it's presented and organized is poor. Another criticism is his somewhat dry presentation of the facts and statistics. This made for a dry read at times and may disinterest some readers depending on the audience.
At the end of his book, the author provides a list of organizations and web-based resources about global warming which is particularly useful for the reader. The author provides a section, "resources for citizens," which gives the reader a better idea on what they can do regarding the subject material. Red Sky at Morning is a very powerful read and informs the reader about the problems of global warming and provides an 8 step process to sustainability. He does a good job of informing and excites the reader to do something about global warming while keeping sustainability practical.

Taking her title from the physicians' Hippocratic Oath, Belkin, who covers medical issues for the New York Times, spent nearly three years with the Hermann Hospital Ethics Committee in Houston, Texas, researching this provocative book on medical ethics. The daily, convulsive questions of life and death that the committee struggles with are often questions without answers, yet they are somehow answered at the Hermann Hospital and in hospitals across the country every single day. Belkin quotes a Chinese proverb: if you save a life, you are responsible for it. The cruel, deceptively simple wisdom of this proverb is brought home on nearly every page of this entirely true, gripping, and dramatic account of how medical chance and technology trap the unsuspecting in a vise of brutal decision-making. Power Writing, Power Reporting, Power Insights

Sure there is plenty of powerful content to praise, but first I want to celebrate author Lisa Belkin's fabulous writing style. She sure knows how to tell a gripping and compelling story. In the tradition of nonfiction writers who write like novelists such as Jon Krakauer (Into Thin Air) and Mark Bowden (Black Hawk Down) Belkin fuses top-notch reporting with authentic protagonist voices, brilliant insights, and the ability to surface root causes, map out trends, and distill the core philosophical issues at stake.

Belkin applies these gifts to telling the story of the most wrenching life and death ethical dilemmas staff, doctors, nurses, and family members face at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Amazing advances in medical technology have forced all of us to confront questions never before encountered: when do we stop trying to keep someone alive? what is the definition of quality of life? who gets to decide -- the doctors or the family members? what is the difference between the law, ethics, and morals? how to best live with the decision once it's made?

It takes courage to delve into these questions and to bear the responsibility for them as the ethics committee does at Hermann. It also took a great amount of bravery to offer journalist Belkin unrestricted access to the inner workings of the hospital and the committee. The result is a significantly important book that contributes in vital ways to the ongoing conversations we need to be having in society and among our families as technology puts us more in the position of having to make god-like decisions.

As a nurse these are issues we deal with all the time and then ask if we helped patients and their family's make the right decision. This certainly showed the ramifications of those decisions. WOW very thought provoking. Should be required reading for all med students and nurses. Highly recommend it

Read This PRIOR to Commenting on the Health Care Insurance Debate

First, Do No Harm. Here we are, in August 2009, with a very heated battle going on in regards to the health insurance battle. People are worried about death panels, Nazi health care (we will be treating Nazis?), and a number of hysterical assumptions. Guess what! Death panels have existed under other names, or perhaps no names at all. Some hospitals call them Ethics Committees, when they are named. But if you are ever involved with the long-term care of someone who is critically ill, a birth defect, or a severe car accident, YOU become part of a death panel, like it or not. Through describing the life & death situations of a variety of patients, author Lisa Belkin educates us in an area a lot of what we don't want to admit to: we will all die, and someone other than ourselves could be making that decision as to when.
