Bounty hunter Olivia "Scout" Jackson was no stranger to danger--but being pregnant changed everything. And wanting, trusting, kissing Pierce Maxwell was risking more than she dared. She couldn't exactly call him a stranger--not when he'd saved her life, not when they'd bared their souls to one another and made love with reckless abandon during what they thought were the last days of their lives. But could she trust the devastating Colby Agency operative to protect her and the precious life she carried when he was duty bound to her enemy? Or would his loyalties change when he found out he was about to become a father?

Decent but predictable...

The back of the book says:

These are easily answered questions. I mean, this is a romance/adventure book after all. The plot was a little far-out and the dialogue predictable, but it was sweet and I liked the sexual tension the characters had.

This is the second time I have read this book. The first time I gave it a low rating, but reading it a second time I really enjoyed the intensity of the suspense, and action. The plot was really good. There were a lot of twist and turns to the story that I didn't expect. I read a lot of books, so reading this book again over a year later, I had forgotten most of it. It was nice to be surprised. I love all the Colby agency books.
Scout, and Max are both P.I's. Scout was hired to rescue a scientist and bring him back to the U.S. She ran into problems, and Max was sent in to bring Scout, and the scientist back. The scientist had contracted the K-141 virus. He had made a antidote, but his formal was off. In his dying breath he told Scout and Max he needed the lab to correct his antidote or they too would die soon. When Scout, and Max got back to the U.S. they were kept in isolation. Everyone expected that they too would die. They were attracted to each other from the start. During their time in isolation they let that passion sizzle. What would it matter? They would both die soon anyways.
They were released from isolation when the lab techs discovered that they were both immune to the K-141 virus. Then the lab techs found out Scout got pregnant during her time in isolation. Her baby held the key to the antidote. People would pay big bucks for that key. Scout and Max had to stay one step ahead of the people that wanted her, and her baby.

Sample from chapter 4 - He's be lying if he said he wasn't still attracted to her physically. He had been since the day he'd first laid eyes on her in that jungle. In the forced isolation and with the certainty of death handing over their heads, that attraction had mushroomed with the force of a nuclear blast. And they'd talked...some.

Sample from chapter 9 - "Can't return fire with my head down." Scout augured as she squeezed off a couple of shots. The van swerved, but didn't slow in it's pursuit. His heart hammering into warp speed. Max tried another evasive maneuver in the hopes of putting distance between them. The van never let up, staying right behind them. Three consecutive shots struck the SUV.

This book in the Colby Agency series was enjoyable to read. One of the better ones. Rather than have the hero (Pierce "Max" Maxwell) and the heroine (Oliva "Scout" Jackson) simply dodging danger all alone, this story brought in other characters from the Colby Agency to assist. Simon Ruhl in an assisting capacity as he offered up his SUV and penthouse, also gave some light to his background of coming from money (which I didn't know). Of course, one of the agents helping was to introduce him for the next book, but at least Doug Cooper had a more active role so you could understand him a little better. Nicole Reed-Michaels assisted (even if breifly) and even Ian Michaels was mentioned as backing up within the operation, though he never was seen.

Overall, it was nice to see teamwork and how even though the various agents were as different as night and day, they came together.

The only part of the story I felt was a bit over emphasized was Scout's "I should tell him the baby is his," and then constantly finding excuses not to. When she finally did tell him, it fell flat.

A must read for Colby Agency fans!
